Meet Attorney Kirk Smith

My name is Kirk Smith. I’ve been practicing law in Arizona since 2002. I was born and raised in Iowa. I received my juris doctorate from Drake University Law School in Des Moines, Iowa, in May of 2001. I moved to Arizona soon after graduating law school and have lived here ever since.

I started my career as an attorney doing criminal defense in Mojave County in the Public Defender’s Office. Afterwards, I worked at the Maricopa County Prosecutor’s Office in Trial Group F. At both locations I received a good deal of trial experience.

In June of 2013, I started Olympus Law in Chandler, Arizona. My office has remained open to the present day, providing professional family law and criminal defense representation.

My experience in criminal law has been as a prosecutor and criminal defense attorney. I’ve handled such obscure cases such as depositing a Bomb (Dangerous) all the way to your garden variety DUI. Under the “My Firm” section of this website, you can see the variety of cases I have experienced. This list is not exhaustive but gives you a feel for of the types of cases I handle as a licensed attorney for over 20 years. I’ve completed approximately 52 felony jury trials, and countless bench trial and evidentiary hearings.

I started practicing family law just a few years after receiving my law license and have represented clients in countless divorce trial and evidentiary hearings. Too often, the parties to a divorce or custody case are driven by fear, anger, and a desire to destroy the other side. I focus on finding a positive outcome for my clients through negotiation, however, at the same time, realize it is necessary to be a strong advocate for them when the other side acts unreasonably.

I enjoy “winning” as much as the next person, which in turn improves the state of my business. More importantly; however, I care about outcomes for my clients’ sake, as good legal representation, I feel, can decrease suffering and improve the lives of those involved.
